“The Greatest Story Ever Told”
<<< A Tale of The Bard >>>
by
Chris Darroch Biggs
“Within each of us lingers a magical flame. No human language can tell of it. No amount of wisdom can truly comprehend it. Religions and Sciences have tried, but failed. All of which is known dictates that without this flame, life would cease to exist. Fueling this flame would answer the greatest question ever conceived: What is the meaning of life? This story is about how I discovered that answer.”
~ CDB
On the day I was born… millions of planets had aligned. Their focused light, energy, magnetic fields, and gravity pull had assisted me into Be-ing. The ground shook, water bubbled, fires danced, and air was breathed. It was a good day to be conscious again.
During the early years of my life, I was trained to be a fighter. Warrior blood was pumped into my veins by old relics of a previous evolved state of Be-ing. My youthful grace was adept at these new skills, however, my heart somehow refused this vigorous blood into my Soul. Instead it produced it’s own. This, unfortunately, had to be concealed like a night’s blanket across the colorful tapestry of day.
My kingdom did not care for my opinions. Instead, it desired to uphold a prehistoric vision of worldly command. By force and by trickery, this order was adopted around this Earthly vessel planet on which I rode. Greed and insatiable passions reigned across the lands. Were it not for it’s practicalities, such inhumane ideals would had surely choked us all from the bosom of life itself.
However, it was righteous, for it satisfied all we knew. Laws and dignities took form and gave meaning to the madness. It had a purpose. But it came with a price.
As time passed, black holes developed within this righteousness. Confused mortals sought immortality, believing it was out there to be discovered. In the swirl of misguided efforts, many a life was pushed aside. Additions and subtractions and divisions of nothingness had somehow turned into Godly somethingness. Worshiping the celebration of new things became heraldry. Honor, virtue, love, and peace had come into Be-ing, but a division gave meaning only to clouded heads.
In my adult years, as a Paladin of Queens, I was sent forth into the great vistas of creation. This epic quest followed stories of good and evil. Ohh what tales were weaved! Then came the day, with shaking legs, a belly full of butterflies, and a mission to abide by, I journeyed onward to find my immortality in the eyes of a rumored Dragon.
For years I had marched until finally, on a somber day, the Dragon had found me. This beast was mountainous in scale and ferocious in hungers! Our battle did not end quickly. Instead, we fought for many years. Yes, years. The demon Dragon followed my retreats and rested only to return with a strike determined only to devour my very Soul. You see, once a Dragon engages you in battle, it sees only you, and can eat nothing else but you!
What ended the Dragon’s life was no weapon of choice. No. Such devices had proven futile in the past. My Dragon, so it had come to be, was not defeated by revenge of gratification. It had killed many of my Kin in times of yesterdays, but this did not provide me with ammunition for the victory. Instead, I championed my ascension through befriending the beast!
As word of my epic victory spread across the globe, I was ordered to overcome many obstacles faced by other, less fortunate Kings. Yes, the world had unkind demons of numerous forms. I shall never forget the day I chased the Harpies away with but my own song. Ohh, and I must not forget the time when a few simple words of my poetry had tamed rampaging, illiterate Barbarians. My greatest accomplishment came when poverty was vanquished with nothing but love!
Over the hills and through the forests, deep within the oceans and far into space, there always seemed to be an endless supply of demons to overcome. They were not all mine, which constantly amused my ageless Soul. No, they had been birthed by the ill fates of others. Such dis-ease had come to plague all lands. There was nowhere to hide, no hallowed ground to walk upon. How could this be? Goblins of Negativity spread like a virus over natural goodness! What fueled these campaigns of indifference? What drove these armies towards oblivion? Only the root of such evils could provide the answers, but somehow, it was only I whom took upon that quest.
Again, the road of hardship was laid out before me. It twisted through canyons, eroded over hills, and seared in the heat of hatreds. My armor held strong, my will was firm, and when all was said and done, I rose atop the pillar of deceit and rested. But somehow, from far below, the armies still grew in numbers. How could this be? This was becoming an endless battle!
To my satisfaction, there had come a day when a fateful understanding became an insightful state of bliss! I spoke with the Essence! It found me when I asked for it. But, most importantly of all, it told me my efforts were not in vain, and that they would never complete their task if accompanied only by singularity.
I pondered the notion. This took millenniums. Finally, it began to make sense!
Yes, how simple yet how true!
Immediately I descended back down the pillar of deceit to face the armies of darkness once more. Ohh but this time I had a new mission! It was not through force or additional mappings that had turned the tides. No. What brought about a new state of Be-ing came from communication!
Truth be told, a Goblin is one remarkable critter! Once it learned my language, it became known that it never meant any harm to begin with! Ohh how we conversed! Problems were solved, pains were converted, and peace and harmony blossomed across the lands! Time turned into love, and love had embraced all.
The grand elder of the Goblins had eventually come to pass, but before doing so, it muttered a final speech to all who listened with intent. I myself had leaned in close, with ink in hand, ready to capture for forever this golden treasure about to be shared!
It looked at me, with tears in it’s eyes. Not tears of pain or sadness… no… they were of joy and peace. The Goblin elder smiled, took a hold of my empty hand, kissed my forehead… and whispered…
“The meaning of life, quite simply, is to shed your eternal light unto others”.
The world rejoiced.
Peace, love, and light be with us all,
Chris Darroch Biggs
